Malpaís and the SIFAIS Orchestra: confetti, piano and a choir of hundreds
At the concert for the SIFAIS Foundation’s 15th anniversary, Malpaís shared the stage with more than 150 of the foundation’s musicians.
If one image summed up the concert for the SIFAIS Foundation’s 15th anniversary, it was Malpaís: a white piano, a shower of confetti and, all around, dozens of children and teens from the SIFAIS Orchestra singing with their arms in the air.
The night, at Parque Viva’s Anfiteatro Imperial, brought Malpaís together with Debi Nova, Gandhi and Balance, a band born inside the foundation more than twelve years ago. With them, more than 150 musicians from the SIFAIS Orchestra, current and former students from La Carpio and La Guaracha in Heredia.
Malpaís’s music, with its mix of Costa Rican roots, strings and songwriting, found a natural ally in the orchestra: violins, young voices and a colorful stage that made the concert more than the sum of its artists.
The goal was clear: to raise funds for the foundation’s social programs in vulnerable communities. What the photos captured was something else, just as important: a generation of musicians who grew up at SIFAIS sharing the stage with the artists they listened to as kids.
