Cultura Profética and Costa Rica, a connection on loop
With Pedregal sold out, the Puerto Rican band brought its En Bucle tour to Costa Rica for a night of reggae that also celebrated Gondwana's reunion with Quique Neira.
On Sunday, October 25, reggae found a home in Belén. Cultura Profética arrived at Centro de Eventos Pedregal to a sold-out crowd with its En Bucle tour, which brought the band to Costa Rica after stops in Guatemala and Panama. The night, produced by Jogo and for ages 18 and up, had a motto that summed up the plan: go back to that original feeling.
Before the main act, the stage belonged to Chile. Gondwana, the band founded in 1987 that became one of the best-known names in Latin American reggae, reunited on stage with Quique Neira, its voice for years before he went solo. With the reggae lion on the giant screens, they ran through the songs that marked a whole generation. It was a reunion Cultura Profética itself had long supported, and the crowd welcomed it with open arms.
Then came the band from Puerto Rico, three decades in since it formed in 1996. Willy Rodríguez, on vocals and bass, moved like he was at home in front of a crowd that sang and danced with phones held high. The screens backed the show with bursts of color, from red to yellow to black and white, as the band moved between laid-back roots and its most danceable moments.
The bond between Cultura Profética and Costa Rica is not new, and last night made it clear why the band keeps coming back.
