Gandhi dresses its rock in black tie with the Orquesta Universal
The band returned to the Melico Salazar with Gandhi Sinfónico: their classic songs, now with strings, winds and percussion.
Few Costa Rican bands have a catalog that can hold up to an orchestra. Gandhi proved it last year, and on September 18 and 19 the band returned to the Teatro Popular Melico Salazar with a new edition of Gandhi Sinfónico, once again joined by the Orquesta Universal.
On stage, the familiar quartet: Luis Montalbert on vocals, Abel Guier, Federico Miranda and Massimo Hernández on drums, with bass, guitar, drums and piano. Behind and around them, some forty musicians on strings, winds and percussion, playing symphonic arrangements written especially for this show. Songs like “El invisible” and “Quisieras” changed their skin without losing the force with which the audience has sung them for years.
The return also had a purpose: these dates launched the album Gandhi Sinfónico, recorded live in the same theater during the 2025 concerts. In a way, it closed the circle in the room where it was all recorded.
Amid red lights, the Melico’s curtain and a full orchestra answering every gesture from Montalbert, Gandhi confirmed what its fans already knew: its songs sound big in black tie, too.
