Íconos del Rock: the original voices of Costa Rican rock, on one stage
Five bands that shaped several generations came together at the Melico Salazar for a night of tribute and nostalgia.
Some nights work like a family photo album. Íconos del Rock, produced by AEA Producciones Artísticas, brought together the original voices of five bands that built much of Costa Rican rock history on Sunday, September 13, at the Teatro Popular Melico Salazar.
The lineup spanned several generations: Pato Barraza of Inconsciente Colectivo; Juan Diego Villegas and Felipe Solís of Tango India; Lucho Calavera of El Parque; Mechas of Kadeho; and Marta Fonseca and Bernal Villegas of Suite Doble. Each arrived with songs the audience already knew by heart, and the buildup promised hits like “Frágil”, “Esperaré”, “Cuántas noches”, “Sola” and “Al final”.
The idea was clear from the announcement: to pay tribute to the legacy of national rock, with the voices that sang it first. On stage, that meant acoustic and electric guitars, open arms and a theater that sang along as if it were its own rehearsal.
More than a tribute, Íconos del Rock was a reminder that Costa Rican rock has a history, and that history still fills theaters.
